George Washington speech, 1790 June 8.

Manuscript of a State of the Union speech given by President Washington to a joint session of Congress, apparently given as Congress was about to begin a new legislative session. The President touches on the need for improvements in defense, postal service, roads, and education, as well as the employment of foreign service officials and the development of a procedure for the naturalization of immigrants.
